The backbone of this piece is cotton fabric hand-dyed to simulate a beautiful sky and low tide in Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia. Located near Lunenburg, NS, this picturesque region offers interesting geologic formations and beautiful coastal settings.
Once the fabric is mounted to a wooden panel, multiple layers of encaustic medium are added. My original photographic image is printed onto a Japanese mulberry paper and embedded into the encaustic surface. Additional medium is applied which ensures the finished piece retains a luminescent quality.
