The backbone of this piece is cotton fabric hand-dyed to simulate the colors of an old, rusting ship's hull.
Once the fabric is mounted to a wooden panel, multiple layers of encaustic medium are added. My original photographic image is printed onto a Japanese mulberry paper and embedded into the encaustic surface. Additional medium is applied which ensures the finished piece retains a luminescent quality.
