Red Skies at Night
17.5" x 17.5" x 2"
The backbone of this piece is cotton fabric hand-dyed to simulate a beautiful evening sky. The image is of the Wood Island Life Saving Station just off the pier at Fort Foster, Kittery, ME.
Once mounted to a wooden panel, multiple layers of encaustic medium are added. My original photographic the fabric is image is printed onto a Japanese mulberry paper and embedded into the encaustic surface. Additional medium is applied which ensures the finished piece retains a luminescent quality.
